Desolation Sound creates a sound they like to call “Salish Rock”. Their music is inspired by the beauty & remoteness of their island home of Friday Harbor, Washington.

“I’m fascinated by that beautiful place where the Salish Sea meets the shore of our island. It’s a mysterious, shifting boundary and I often draw deep meaning from my experiences there” says Daniel.

Daniel DeShon is Desolation Sound’s primary songwriter. He has written a novella called “Cascadia” and it has become the springboard for the songs that make up the band’s fourth record, which just arrived on King Tide Records July 11th, 2026!

Recently the band released a live record titled “Island Songs Live” that was recorded, mixed and produced by Gary Westcott.

The bands’ second record “Silver Rain” dropped on Robo Jack Records on August 10th, 2023, and their debut record “Salish Rock” was released in July of 2022. Those records were produced by John Goodmanson and Adam Kasper respectively.

The band consists of Scott Sluis on drums, Darvis Taylor on bass, Gene Nery on lead guitar and Daniel DeShon on vocals & guitar.
